When it comes to redecorating the bathroom, most homeowners will invariably play it safe and stick to the same old whites and neutrals, with the occasional pastel if they're feeling particularly brave.

However, just because it's the smallest room in the house, there's no reason why your bathroom should be boring or why you shouldn't use this space to experiment with new ideas.

And one of the best ways to have a bit of fun with your bathroom is to inject a dash of colour. Not only will different tones and shades change the mood of your interior, but playing with colour is a simple way to instantly revamp a room without having to splash the cash.

"Bathrooms can be easily and affordably revamped with coloured accessories or towels," said Leanne Wookey, design team manager at NoChintz,

"People are often afraid to use bold statements [but] the bathroom is the best place to do this, it can be playful and risky."

As Leanne points out, bright accessories such as shower curtains, bath mats and painted cabinets are a great way to bring a bit of colour to your bathroom without putting a strain on your bank balance - and they can easily be swapped or adapted when you feel like it's time for a change.

Another quick and affordable way to give your interior an instant lift at minimum cost is to pay attention to some of the smaller features such as taps and radiators. It may seem like a small change, but a fancy chrome towel radiator or wall mounted taps can instantly refresh your bathroom and give it a whole new feel.

Finally, finish off your revamp by having a quick de-clutter to create an airy, relaxed atmosphere in the room.

"Clever storage ideas can make the world of difference too," Leanne adds. "Using your wall space for shelves or quirky hooks can free up the floor space, making the room instantly feel more spacious."
