While you can be a bit daring with designs in the kitchen and experiment with colour in the bedroom, when it comes to bathroom sometimes interior design can just seem a little uninspiring.
Although the traditional all-white tiled interior seems a little boring, practicality has to be key in the bathroom so being too adventurous isn't really an option, which can leave homeowners feeling a little stumped for ideas.
Therefore, if you fancy giving your bathroom a bit of a revamp but are stuck as to where to begin, it may be worth taking the advice of Jo Butterworth, marketing manager at Boundary Bathrooms, and focusing on one key feature.
"We always say to choose one piece that you like," she says. "Choose a tap that you like or a mirror that you like, and from that you can build the rest of your bathroom.
"If you like a tap that is very angular, then you know that you can go for a very angular looking bath and very angular looking pottery - you can keep everything in the same range."
As Jo points out, even something as simple as interesting bathroom taps can be all it takes to kick start your interior design and help you develop a stylish yet functional room.
Although distinctive features such as electric towel radiators, quirky sink taps or patterned tiles can help create an individual bathroom, it's often a good idea to retain some more traditional elements of the interior.
"People are still wanting to stay quite modern, but the traditional style of bathroom is really soaring back," says Jo.
For instance, try merging modern chic with traditional by installing a free-standing roll-top bath against a backdrop of glass tiles or combine stainless steel fixtures with a simple tub and sink.
