You may have heard time and time again that size doesn't matter. Well, we're here to tell you that it does - at least when it comes to your heating.
Anyone who's ever botched up a DIY task will know just how frustrating it is when you have to go back and do an important job all over again, so when it comes to sorting your heating system, it really pays to get it right the first time round.
And, according to Adam Taylor, marketing manager at Artex, this means picking the right sized radiator.
"In terms of starting a brand new heating system, the most important thing is just making sure you've got the right sized radiator," he says. "Make sure you do that calculation first. That's the most important thing as you can't really go back and change your radiator afterwards - all the pipework needs altering."
So before you rush out to buy your trendy chrome towel radiators for your bathroom or invest in attractive electric radiators, it's essential that you take the time to take all the necessary measurements to ensure that your heating system works.
For complicated jobs such as plumbing and electrics many homeowners will opt to call in a professional tradesman, but if you're completely confident with your DIY skills and have carried out similar tasks before, you may want to fit the heating system yourself.
However, Adam advises that if you are going to undertake the task of fitting a radiator yourself, it is a good idea to invest in some high-quality tools first.
"I think if you are serious about it then without a doubt those tools will make your life so much simpler, he adds. "Getting the right tool is important as well - you can use various tools for various things, but you've got to get the right one."
