When redecorating your kitchen it can be easy to fall into the trap of neutral colours on the wall, simple tiling on splashbacks and plain appliances that do little to add any sparkle to the interior.

After all, as the space where we cook, eat and socialise, the kitchen is the one of the most used rooms in the house - so when it comes to redesigning we all know that practicality is key.

However, practical doesn't have to be boring. In fact, there are plenty of ways that you can bring a little creativity to your kitchen to create a fun, attractive and personalised space while still keep functionality at the forefront if our minds.

We don't mean that you have to go crazy painting weird and wonderful murals on the wall or investing in strange space age-looking appliances that no one knows quite how to work, as just a few simple touches can really make your kitchen feel like your own.

Even small ideas such as painting a single wall a bright colour, choosing some interesting tiles for your splashback or investing in pull out kitchen taps rather than those in the traditional style can make your kitchen that bit different but without overwhelming the whole interior design.

And it looks like the trend for personal, creative DIY work could well catch on, as Paul Minderides, a professional tradesman from Wickes, has remarked that people seem to be enjoying putting their own stamp on their interiors.

"I think that it is really great that people are trying to get creative and put a twist into a normal DIY job," he added.

"I like DIY because it gives people a chance to be creative within their own homes and in some instances to get their hands dirty where they don't usually. So to then incorporate some artistic venture within that, it is fantastic to hear that people are doing that."
