Gleaming Chrome Taps at Grand Designs Live 2015
Choose Your Style, Exhibitions, Latest Giveaways, TapsWe were surprised to find that it is not only the large and luxurious bathroom fittings that grab everyone’s attention during our shows.
Even the smallest things can have the biggest impact on the overall look of a room; everything works to either pull down or accentuate your design ethos. One of these smaller items is one of the most functional: your taps.
So, what kind of design options do we have to offer you when it comes to taps around the home then? Well, setting aside the type of garden hose external taps in your garage, shed or external wall, these.
Standard Taps
These are your classic pillar two-tap setups, usually with the star-handles. There is nothing wrong with these taps, and they go fantastically in classic and traditional bathrooms. The disadvantage is that you can’t combine the two into one stream, which could be an issue if you have to balance up extremely hot or cold water.
Mixer Taps
These single-unit taps streamline the overall look, and can be situated in the middle of a sink or bath. In opposition to the above, mixer taps – as the name suggests – can combine the two competing streams to give you the completely desired flow and temperature. This is especially true with thermostatic models with shower attachments.
Freestanding Taps
Freestanding taps are again fairly self-explanatory, and are the ideal accompaniment to a similarly freestanding bath. The two discrete units are a mainstay of cutting edge, contemporary bathrooms, and truly do look amazing.
Waterfall Taps
This is a subtle update, but not necessarily upgrade, on a standard mixer tap. The change comes in the form of the manner of delivery of the flow. Instead of the focused spray you get a cascade that attempts to mimic – on diorama scale – the majesty of a waterfall. They can look spectacular, but really are down to personal taste.
