At BathEmpire, we make a point of forging a continuing relationship with our customers.

We don’t just like to shut the till, drop off the stuff, and make away! No, we provide a free 10-year warranty, as a guarantee of our confidence in the longevity of our great products. What we are also doing is putting together a body of aftercare knowledge so that you can get the very best from your units.

In this case, we are looking at those beautifully reflective beacons of light in the bathroom, the chrome fittings. At BathEmpire, we guard against rust by utilising a mix of a brass base overlaid with a thick chrome plating. This ensures corrosive elements cannot take hold.

However, one thing we cannot guarantee is that they won’t get dirty! The average family bathroom will be seeing some serious traffic. So, how best to keep your chrome taps, valves and other items gleaming clean?

1. First things first, here. Now, we have nothing specifically against your standard bathroom cleaners per se, it’s just that we have found, especially on chrome fittings, they can be a little harsh. This can distort the look of your piece, not just dulling the shine but also damaging the finish.

2. With this in mind, your best bet is a very easy bet. A standard dish or cleaning cloth dipped in warm, soapy water will do the job on most bathroom grime. Well, with a bit of elbow grease thrown in, of course.

3. One other suggestion that we’ve yet to test, but which has its adherents online, is baby shampoo!

Of course, logic dictates that something formulated to protect a baby’s skin and eyes will not do damage to metal, so it seems kosher to me!

4. For awkward little nooks and crannies, keep a toothbrush in your cleaning bag – don’t use your own! The bristles are soft enough not to cause any scuffing to the finish.

5. If you have some scum on there that is just refusing to shift, go for that DIY classic bathroom cleaner of half and half vinegar and water solution. Clean as normal, and the astringency of the vinegar should move that stubborn stain.

6. Finally, get a specialist chrome wax and work it over the fixtures with a soft, dry cloth. This will not only bring up the shine but add a layer of protection for the unit too.
