Showers Buying Guide 1 - Concealed Shower Kits: Valves

If you have decided to opt for a minimalist look, the BathEmpire Concealed kits are a great option. As the name suggests, all the pipework is installed behind the plaster wall, floor or ceiling (depending on the layout of your bathroom), leaving you with a visually stunning, clean finish.

The key components of a concealed shower kit are a:

The concealed shower valve is sold as a 1 Way, 2 Way or 3 Way mixer - each name refers to the number of outlets to which the shower is able to deliver water.

Concealed valves can be a bit confusing, so we have clarified the differences below.

1 Way Mixer Valves

These are ideal for a single main shower head.

  • Top dial: Top dial turns the water on and controls the flow of the water.
  • Lower dial: Bottom dial allows you to set the water temperature from 20 - 50 deg C.

2 Way Mixer Valves

These allow you to add a secondary outlet.

  • Top dial: turns the water on and controls the flow of the water from primary outlet.
  • Middle dial: allows you to set the water temperature from 20 - 50 deg C.
  • Lower dial: turns the water on and controls the flow of the water from a secondary outlet.

So, you can set up a kit with a:

  • Primary outlet: Fixed shower head.
  • Secondary outlet: Hand held shower head or body jets or bath filler.

3 Way Mixer Valves

These allow the most flexibility, as you can add a second and third outlet.

  • Top dial: allows you to select between the fixed shower head, a secondary outlet and/or a tertiary outlet. You can have either 1 outlet working, or a combination of 2 working simultaneously. It is not possible for all 3 to work together.
  • Middle dial: turns the water on and controls the flow of the water.
  • Lower dial: allows you to set the water temperature from 20 - 50 deg C.

So, you can set up a kit, where two of these outlets can be used at the same time:

  • Primary outlet: Fixed shower head.
  • Secondary outlet: Hand held shower head or body jets or bath filler.
  • Tertiary outlet: Hand held shower head or body jets or bath filler.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

And if all this was not enough to whet your appetite for a new shower, then below we have referenced some questions asked by our customers. Hopefully, these will help allay any concerns you may have.

Will by boiler be adequate?

Generally, most boilers produce a pressure in excess of 1 bar, and this is the minimum level of pressure required for most of the BathEmpire showers. Some of our Chrome Effect Shower Heads can function well on less, and require a minimum pressure of 0.5 bar.

And as all our products are manufactured to strict standards, there should be no issue connecting it to your water system.

Will I need a pump with my shower?

There are a few scenarios with which you may need to attach a pump to your system.

Although most boiler systems comfortably produce a pressure in excess of 1 bar, if you have a gravity fed system (with a water tank in the attic) then you would require a pump to be attached. The sole purpose of the device would be to increase the pressure of the water flowing to water outlets.
